i have a weird problem that has developed of late.
I connect to one of my customers via a pptp vpn
i've been doing this all year

something has changed and i'm not sure where to begin to look
i can connect via web manager to the IP office (release 9)
but i can't connect to it via IP office manager
when it does the TCP discovery, it find the local IP office on my work private IP office, but it can't find the one at my customers
seeing as i can ping the IP office and web manage it at my customers across the PPTP i know i have rout ability to it.

doesn't matter with computer i use here (I have a server 2008, win10 and win07 machines)

it DID work work, i don't know what could have changed
(i am NOT in control of the customers network, but i am "aware" of its architecture...and it isn't fancy

any thoughts are appreciated

You enter the IP of the IPO when you search for it and not 255.255.255.255?

"Trying is the first step to failure..." - Homer

doh, i could do that i guess....i just usually let tcp discovery find it
i'll try that this morning...

ok, so i'm a total idiot
that worked fine
now, why didn't the discovery work.
nothing changed here..

and i'm pretty sure they're not doing any funky network protocol filtering...

or do i even bother trying to figure out why?

rr

because thay have broadcast turned off on the network would be my guess

Broadcasts are local, they don't pass through gateways and VPNs :)

amriddle01 - while i'm not entirely sure, i believe it was passing through (I do question my memory from time to time).....it just stopped recently - i've been connecting to it this way since january (i don't think i even knew the ip address of the IP office)
i'm going to wireshark it

i'm actually wondering if the fellow in charge of the network security has been futz'g round in the background
at lest now i can get to it.

thanks for your feedback

Depends on the VPN setup, if you end up with an address local to the IPO then perhaps, but that wouldn't usually change/break :)

Also put the ip address range in the search criteria in preferences.

derfloh - i'm not in charge of network access at this customer, so i have no "say" as to my connectivity methods. I was just brought in to manage HO's IP office and the remote sales offices. All connectivity decisions are made by the network admin...old school computer/ server guy!

i primarily do network security as a main offering, but they already "had a guy"

he's not even using a network appliance to do the VPN terminations. i think he's doing it with an old windows server of some vintage

thanks of all your help, figure i'll also look at routing its sending down to me to see if there's other routes its populating when i connect now..
i just had an urgent need to connect and configure so licenses and power users

i can tinker with this at my leisure now and bring it up during our next conference call
