During the publishing of the IP Office Release 9.1 material, we upgraded the third-party software that the IP Office Knowledgebase site uses for its search functions. Unfortunately, at the end of last week it was spotted that searches for any word that consists of letters and numbers were returning no matches.

Having investigated the issue the software developers have accepted that the cause stems from their software code and aim to implement a fix shortly. Meanwhile, we have implemented a number of workarounds so that such searches do now return results. However, the nature of the workarounds means some of the resulting matches may actually be unrelated. For example, we have made it so a search for IP500 runs a search for 500 and so returns results, but those result will also contain matches for anything that contains 500.

We apologise to anyone who encountered the zero results issue and for the 'excess' results that will now occur until we have the software fix.

Thanks for the information

This means that we are not crazy or search illiterate :)

Would be a good option to get an information banner or popup when navigating to search page. I'm pretty sure most users of knowledgebase don't look here.

That would be communicative and honest. And the users see that you work on it...

A good idea and in fact a message page has been scripted, I just haven't worked out how best to deploy it on the site (except most definitely not a popup).

"I'm pretty sure most users of knowledgebase don't look here." - even with my Avaya loyalty hat firmly on I would say more look here than in any other place I know (except the Knowledgebase itself), though will slap my wrist for not also posting in the official Avaya support forum (
The company whose software drives the searches have today made a fixed build available so that will be tested and if okay, normal service will resume next week.

Also, since the search problem also affected the IP Office 9.1 Documentation DVD, a new version of that was made available yesterday containing both the interim search workaround, updates to a number of documents and various link fixes.
