Does anyone know if the ports for the digital 8 or combo card are electrically isolated? I.e. if port 1 shorts out because X, does it take out the whole card or just that port?

Also, does the system protect against shorting?

Programming should make you feel like god. But it doesn't because there are rules.

Shorts can blow ports, seen a combo lose a port through a slight short on a fraid line cord, they seem rather fragile. So avoid shorts at all costs.
Also seen a PC connected to a Phone 8 port blow the whole card, don't do that either :)

I've seen a computer plugged into a digital 8 take down the whole card. Luckily for this client once I found the culprit and unplugged it the digital 8 came right back up (after a reboot).

That makes sense...a single D8 card on a full system was down. I would appear that they may have plugged a PC into the wall jack. A reboot fixed this one as well.

(This story is not the same as the OP system. But happened last week.)

The system in question was in a flooded building. They took the handsets out and killed the power, but I think some of the jacks were shorted. I've advised them to test by plugging the phone directly to the control unit and if they check out, have an electrician repair/replace all the house wiring.

If it was flooded then replace the phone system as well as you will have weird issues going forward or could have I should say

I have to agree with Joe2938

Flood damage, like storm damage should always result in a full replacement of all equipment. It is impossible to Tel what components may have been weakened & you could find yourself having to pay for replacement equipment in 7-8 months time that you could have charged the customer for (& they could have claimed on insurance) & that is ignoring the cost of the additional downtime for the customer . it is simply not worth the risk.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

I've seen a bad combo card take down all of the digital station ports on the entire 500V2 cabinet on two different systems. Powered down, pulled out one of the combo cards (just a guess as to which one), powered up and everything else came back up. When I examined the combo card there was scorching on the main digital station part of the card as one of the ICs blew for some reason.

That will have been a short or more likely a PC connected, as I mentioned it literally blows them up, combos aren't well made :)
