I have a site with call volume issues on forwarded calls. The site forwards their calls to an answering service each night, and once the call is forwarded when you call the line you can hear an audible drop in volume once the forward takes place. The answering service can hear the caller just fine, but the caller can barely hear the answering service. This particular site is using Line Appearances and *72/*73 to forward their calls, so I would think this is a LEC issue since the call shouldn't be hitting the phone system at all, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

As I've had this issue at other sites that do forward from the phone system instead of *72/*73, I'm looking for an explanation of the cause of the issue and potential fixes so I can educate myself when the customer asks. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

Update to this ticket:

This site was not a LA site like I thought, it was a sister site that was using CA's and forwarding calls through the phone system instead of *72/*73. I tweaked the A->D Gain Settings for the lines in question up to 3db and the issue definitely improved, but not as much as I'd like. I went all the way up to 6db and it got a little better, and the person on the other end said I didn't sound too loud to them so for the time being I'm leaving the settings at 6db. Still, though, the volume is too low for the customer's liking, and a little muffled. These are POTS lines, so is there anything the LEC can do/check for on their end to improve the line "loudness" or clarity on their side?

analog lines ??
then it is normal that the volume goes down, sorry to say.

You could get a couple of SIP trunks for the forwarding after hours (depending how many calls you need) to avoid that problem but with analog lines I am afraid I have not found a suitable solution yet.
