We are running IP Office 9.0 Server Edition with 2 Control Units. We have a batch of 3rd Party IP (Spectralink 8440) phones to add to the system. When I purchased the 3rd Party IP license from the local Telco, I can add the licenses to the Server and they will show valid, but if I try to add them to the Control Unit that we are building the extension/users on it shows invalid. I was told that the license gets put on the server and the control units reference the server to validate licensing, but when we started building out the SIP extensions, we got about 3 or 4 done and got the error that we have exceeded the license?

So I guess I am confused. We built all of our digital station on Control Units 1 & 2. We have 5 Ayava IP phones that we built on Control Unit 1 and at the time I could apply that license directly to the unit. We have no users or extensions built directly on the server. Is there an issue with the license and how it was created or are we doing something wrong?

What kind of Licenses are they? PLDS or ADI? I assume ADI since you're on v9

I would upgrade this system and then migrate to PLDS.
Then setup your SE as the WebLM server so you can put all licesnes on the SE.
Point the gateway to the SE as license server and it will pull the needed licenses.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

They are ADI licenses. Are you saying it would be best to upgrade the system to v10 and migrate to PLDS?

Does not matter where your licenses are, but i would guess ADI on R9...
either way the fact that they work on one node (Primary Server)but when you add them to the "Control Unit" (which we assume is an IP500) and they are invalid, tells you everything you need to know. The licenses are tied to the primary server.

This is fine, as the Primary can distribute them out to the other nodes on the Server Edition network. So, the users you create on the IP500, will still pull a license form the Primary, if it is not on the IP500...
