Hi.

Does the SD card hold the config, software and licences?

For example. If I have an R9 system CCU running, could I have a second system sat as standby, and swap the SD card if it failed? Would the system need to be the same software revision, or PCS version?

Just thinking of quick disaster recovery.

Thank you.

Just make sure the second system is set up on the same firmware and it should swap fairly quickly, PCS doesn't matter. Everything is indeed tied to the SD card.

not arrogant, just succinct.

The 2nd system would likely upgrade itself from the card if it was on a different version. However, as Tom says, it would speed up the whole process if it had already been manually upgraded to the same level.

The one section of config to be beware off is security configuration. There is handled slighlty differently, but as long as you enure you use the same admin password thing should be easy, really only an issue if you have external servers/apps connecting to the system with service user accounts, in which case they need to have matching accounts and passwords pre-configured on the replacement control unit.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Thanks for this.

The main system is R9, but I am pretty sure the other CCU on site is R6. Would putting the SD card into the R6 upgrade it to R9 happily? I guess I should backup the SD card first.

Thanks.

Sorry but probably not. Without re-reading the technical bulletins for each release, there is a key upgrade (somewhere around 8.0 or 8.1 if I recall correctly) where the upgrade process makes changes to the systems memory usage. So safest with a system that old to do incremental upgrades.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

6 to 9 would require an upgrade license and essential license. And yes, you have to go to 8.1 first.
