Hope you guys can help.

I am wanting to setup a vpn between to sites using ADSL that will carry data and phone calls. I have an ip office 403 at each site and believe I need to make sure I have quality of service configured for the voice calls. Any suggestions on routers and config would be much appreciated.

Thanks

the VPN functionality is still CI on the IP Office, so the VPN will have to be handled seperately. there is a pretty good job aid at support.avaya.com for connecting sites with xDSL (the VPN is already present in the job aid).

One thing to keep in mind is that you cannot guarantee QoS over the internet, it will be a best effort even if you setup your routers with QoS. The best way to approach a VPN for site-to-site VoIP is through your provider (managed) versus hardware - they will be able to give you some guarantees, but you will definitely have to pay for them. Depending on the type of traffic, you can probably get away with a few IP Trunks over a hardware VPN.

In reference to above noted. It makes a big difference if you are all the same provider from end to end (I.E. Bell to Bell). Wireless ISP connections are nothing but trouble for I.P. Trunking. Keep in mind when setting up your local side QOS, you want things to be running full duplex and make sure your bandwidth count is taken in consideration. (obviously). If the customer can spare a few bucks X 2, try using the Avaya SG200 (renamed VSU 500, can be known as both). It is 100% geared towards this environment and has all the QOS you need in a router (supports V.P.N. & Q.O.S.). Hope you can get good support with it though, on little issue that need fast answers. Switch wise something that has Laywer 3 prioritization capabilities. Good Luck.
