We need to program 30 new IP phones in our PBX. Currently, we have 7 "IP Users" left. Do we need the licenses in order to program the phones? We're hoping to have the programming in place before the deployment of the phones.

Although you state that you have 7 IP ports spare, have you gone into LD 117 and run the command INV GEN SETS

Wait a while until it ends or log out for e.g. 30 minutes and then go back into the LD 117 area and key in INV PRT SETS

This will list out all the digital wired and IP sets which is useful to show what was plugged in or not as you might have more spare IP ports showing "unavailable" than you had originally thought!.

If you still need more licenses, then you will need to contact your supplier with your site ID and obtain extra IP licenses before you can program them in.

You should also be using the LOCRPT commands in LD 117 to make suer that any IP sets you might want to out are not being used in a Virtual Office mode, etc. Just do a LOCRPT ? in LD 117 for a listing of the commands.

What hardware is required in the PBX for IP Phones?

You need a signal server, media card of some sort, and licenses. Plus a power source to power the phone. Either locally powered or POE.

You can get your existing "traditional telephone" licenses converted to IP.
