Got a good one for ya. Has anyone set up IP hardphones/softphones crossing two continents?
Is the latency a killer? Our data guy is showing from NY to Madrid about 170ms.
Current set up is PBX in NY out to Cajun and Cisco router.
We have an office in SC that has matching Cisco routers and cajuns to IP endpoints.

Thanks all. Have a happy and fun New Year.

Natoli,

Read this:
[pc2]

It says:
• Network delay:
One-way Between endpoints,
- 80ms (milliseconds) delay or less can, but may not, yield toll quality.
- 80ms to 180ms delay can give business communication quality.
This is much better than cell-phone quality and in fact is very well suited for the majority of businesses.
- Delays exceeding 180ms may still be quite acceptable depending on customer
expectations, analog trunks used, codec type, etc.

But download the PDF and study it, cause as you might know delay is not the only factor that effects voice-quality[glasses] Please let me know if the information that was provided is helpfull.

One thing to consider would be who is using it.
For in company use this may be acceptable, where as with
outside customers this may not.

Thanks for the link on the pdf. I had it opened once before but lost the link and didn't have time to search for it. The only one using it should be our employee. I'd love to make him use a code prior to dialing but have never done any kind restrictions like that. I have to read more into that.

We support some off shore sites in India using IP hardphones for OCM from Florida. Our roundtrip times run between 300 - 400 ms. We are running multivantage software and the latest firmware on the C_Lan and Prowler boards. Make sure your station's service link mode is set to permanent.

wsnell- Thanks for the information. How is the quality of the call with 300 to 400ms? What other equipment do you have supporting the IP sets? The S8700? Also, what kind of internet connection are they running - ISDN speed? Just trying to see how it can be done.
Thanks,
Jay

I am curious about the quality of the call too with 300 to 400ms.

I haven't tried phone yet but for video 180 ms the call is still very good.

I want to know have any one done a IP phone to IP phone setup without using Call Manager. This setup is similar to Yahoo Messenger but with IP Phone. Please share your experience.
