So i have this client i need to do a site survey for the dect phones that are going to be installed, since neither avaya nor my suppliers can provide me with a site survey kit i have decided to make my own...
I have an IPBS base station,a 3725, a battery booster, a small poe switch and a dolly...
Now what ? :)
Is there a specific configuration i can do on the base to make it work without an ip office just for the survey or do i need to do the whole config and bring an ip500 box on the dolly too ?
Does the ipo needs to be at release 7, any licensing requirements with 5.0 6.0/.1 or 7.0 ?

Thanks for any pointers

I have the R3 Dect survey kit based on DeTeWe hardware.
You don't need any IPO but the provided RBS is a special one which is able to register the measuring terminals as "indipendent" extension. This because the measuring procedure consists on the dBm radio strenght but, also, in generating/receiving calls and in a true conversation.
You cannot build it yourself without a IPO, then you needs IP endpoint licenses on the IP Office and a SARI certificate on the Dect Side.

As nearly all DECT systems have the same range/limitations, I just use an old Kirk survey kit which is just little base station with battery and a mp3 player. Works a treat :)

The DeTeWe DECT survey kit is a KIRK site survey kit.
As Kirk has been bought by Polycom you might find it there.
If you do a lot DECT installations then the site survey kit is a very good investment.

I have done dect site surveys in the past and all you need to do is get some drawings of the building you are going to survey.

You need to be sure if it is for healtcare or not.
Healtcare has stronger rules for coverage.
Is the building new or existing?
When it is new, is it ready?
Glass, doors and walls will have a major influence on your survey.
This must be there already or you can do your survey again.

Begin your survey on a strategic place within the building.
Take a photo camera with you so that you can take pictures of the locations of the base stations.

Be sure that you have enough coverage straight away because you do not want to add base station on your own costs.
You better be honest when you need more basestations then paying for extra basestations.

BAZINGA!

Just try to read ( some folks seems to be able to read docuents but are unable to understand the contents ) the manual can be found here:
support.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/100126153

A site survey can be done with any DECT basestation and a 3711, 3725, 3740 and 3749 handset, this is NOT available on a 3701 or 3720.
For a 3711 press Menu***76# to enter the measuring mode
For a 3720,3740 and 3749 via the admin menu:
1. Go to the Call Time menu (Menu | Calls | Call Time).
2. Activate the Admin menu by pressing >*<<*>
3. In Admin menu, select DECT Info.
4. Select Link. The phone will display information about the base station.

One important thing not documented is that DECT is a cellular system and "alien" DECT systems within the cellular range may cause problems if it transmits on the same frequency of a nearby basestation. The obvious is not to use "alien" DECT devices but often the customer use a DECT based headset which they refuse to replace.
In such cases make sure that the cellular DECT system has more power in that area as the "alien" system by placing two basestations nearby the "alien" system.

Did the alien base station came with a spaceship?
Can those alien basestations or handsets read the manual?

Sorry, i am bored :)

Intrigant, i ve read the manual don't worry, my point is that for your exemple the phone needs to be subscribe to the base, so i need to bring an ip office along with the proper licensing on it, my question was since there is a kit that uses only a special base and a handset if i could program a normal base a certain way to do the same... :)

I think that there will be a special phone in the kit that does not need any registration at all.
Tenovis (Bosch) had such a system with a couple of detc phones that where only for site survey.

And if not then you still can register the phone on the base station.
You only need an ipo for making calls.

that's it Peter, the RBS included into the kit is a special one which is able to register the included dect terminals as extensions. Viceversa (common RBS) you need a IPO to register the extensions and generate traffic.

You can use a single basestation without a IPO, you just can't make any calls but there is no need for it if you do a site survey.

Ahaha, yes, i spent all day doing a huge site survey with it it worked like a charm !! Not on a golf course though bummer !!
