ISSUE:

When 2 people are out of the office and VPN into the network they use IP Communicator. When calling internal and external folks everything works fine. If one "off-site" IP Comm. user calls another "Off-site" IP Comm. the calls connect but you can not hear anything on either end. No audio at all but you see the connect timer running when they pick up.

Using Checkpoint NG VPN.

Any thoughts?

You need to make sure that each person can ping to each other. The call set up will work because the phones can each ping the call manager. If the vpn users can not ping each other they will not be able to have a conversation. Make sure there are no codec mismatches. When the call is placed from either vpn client, you can hit the i button twice on the IP communicator to check the codec. Make sure each user is using the the same codec. It really sounds like a routing problem on your vpn clients though.

We can not ping each other. This is being told to me by our network administrator. We can not ping each other because when you come in through VPN both parties can have the same IP (ie: 192.168.1.101) so how could they ping each other. We use checkpoint VPN. If there is something that I can tell our administrator to change please let me know. He wants to know exactly how the IP Comm. works with VPN before making any modifications.

We just tried a test within the office. I have 2 laptops connected to an outside DSL connection. We VPN'd both into the network and launched IP Communicator. We were able to make calls to each other with audio. How could this be different if I was at a Home location? We still VPN'd in.
