I have a BCM 3.7 that has been upgraded to 4.0 It runs great. It was built in a 6/2 split. It has licensing for 56 IP clients. We currently have 51 working. When trying to connect the 52+ the phone reads "no ports available"

The BCM monitor shows 51 of 51 active. The licensing show 56. Any ideas?

TIA

You need a 3/5 split for that many IP Clients. Surprised 51 work at 2/6 split.

thought this may be the case.

can i back up a 6-2 split and restore it on a 5-3 machine?

Doubtful. I think you have to take it back to 2/6 to restore. But, there is no data lost when going from 2/6 to 3/5. I've done it 5 times with very little issues.

so you're saying that making the split change causes no data loss? Which bus is removed? 7? so 2-6 remain?

Yes, seven becomes unusable. Yes, going from 2/6 to 3/5 has NO database loss. However, going from 3/5 to 2/6 defaults the programming.

can someone point me where to go inorder to make this change? i have a back up of the current config.

1 other question. my PRI is on bus 7. do i move it to bus 6 before or after the reconfig?

From the manual:

Warning: Changing the DS30 bus split
If you change the bus split from 2/6 (default) to 3/5 after the system is initialized, any
module set to DS30 bus 7 or requiring the use of bus 7 becomes inoperable.
If you change the bus split from a 3/5 split to a 2/6 split after the system is initialized,
all data is lost, and all optional applications must be reinstalled and reconfigured.
Bus 7 must be enabled prior to converting from a 2/6 to 3/5 split.

how do i change the bus of the PRI (to 6)and keep it enabled for the conversion?

I don't know what the hell that means. Trust me, you want nothin' in Bus 7. Can any of the MVPs back me up on this?

i don't doubt ya, just looking to confirm what i read in the manual vs what i read on here.

So,
back up switch
power down
change bus 7 to bus 6
power up
change 6/2 split to 5/3 split
change lines in pool to match bus 6 instead of bus 7

that sound about right?

90%, I would change everything to do with moving the PRI from Bus 7 to Bus 6, before changing the split. Because once you click the mouse for the split, there is no going back.

where does it allow me to choose 5-3 vs 6-2 in Element Manager?

Thats not my fastball, thats my hurry up and get by you pitch... Satchel Paige

Now you got me. I haven't been in front of a BCM in a year and a half. It's not in the usual places you visit. I believe it is a drop-down, where you look at your current Split configuration.

Go to config log in> diagnositc
>Highlight MSC>config >at the top tool bar then 3/5.

Deweyhumbolt you're the man, or woman...

Your instructions where right on. Thanks for the help!
