I have read "most" Of the RFC.. its great for the geek... but I wonder if it's a bit much for a beginner in subnetting? I was lucky, I had done some programming before I learned IP so the idea of masking and stealing bits was already a concept I understood.
What about the rest of you? prior experience or did you learn it cold?
I did self-study and learned it. The problem is that I do it so infrequently. Every once in a while when I need to do it, I have to relearn it. I have my network setup, so changes are very rare.
I also use a free utility from Boson testing software site.
I also have one for my PalmVII but they want money for it and I'm grumbling about it As you can see, I deal with subnets almost daily. At last count my network has over 250 subnets from Class A to C and I'm trying to get ready for D which is multicasting.
