IP ADDRESS RECOGNITION

Hi ....
I was wondering if anybody could give me some info on IP ADDRESS RECOGNITION . I want to develop a site that only accepts specified IP addresses instead of the normal user name and password. Any input welcome.

Proxies could make life difficult here;

$REMOTE_ADDR holds the IP address of the client making the request
