Ip address problem

I recently set up a wireless network with a DL-514 router and I'm using a DWL-650 wireless card. This is on a laptop with XP pro installed. I went through all the instructions that came with the box and set up everything the way they said to. My wireless network shows that it's got a strong signal and is connected but I can't browse anything on the internet. I noticed that the DHCP is giving my laptop an ip address of 169.254.13.2 and I need it to be 192.168.0.xxx in order to be on the same network as the router. I'm not sure where to go from here. I can connect to the internet if I plug in the ethernet cable from the router to the laptop so I know I'm getting data through, it's just not happening across the wireless network. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This might sound silly but bare with me. If you have a wireless NW icon in you system tray right click and show available networks.

You should see "YourRouterName" and a tick box that says allow to connect even though it is not secure. Then click OK. You can also get here via Network Adapters.

I can't remember the exact wording but this might get you going.

If your ip is 169.254.x.x that means:
your box can't see the dhcp server, and you have AIPA enabled, so...
either the router's dhcp function is off OR
the wireless function is off. the dl-514 is a combo utp/wireless router. you should first connect with a cable and set up the router from the admin web interface.

If you're using a company box they may have killed your ability to use wireless with a gpo...

You can assign a static IP address to the wifi NIC. just make sure the network mask matches your router. Check manual. i.e. 192.168.0.100/255.255.255.0, and the def gateway/dns server should also be the router address.

This is 5 days old, so you probably have this worked out by now...
