ip address of an interface

I am trying to configure the ethernet interface on my Cisco 1601. I tried to use the ip 128.0.102.1, but I am getting a bad ip error message! What can I do

ip address 128.0.102.1 255.0.0.0

Is this what you typed in? or close?

I used
config t
int e0
ip address 128.0.102.1 255.255.0.0

and then i got the error
