IP address keep changing

I have a mobile laptop workstation that goes in and out of the office.

in the office I can connect to my files out of the office I use it to run and test av equipment.

recently my ip address keeps changing. when at work I plug it in and it shows another IP address. I do a ipconfig /renew and it finds it again. I do it again but this time I flush the DNS and renew it and the ip address changes back to another network.

The Wifi on the laptop is off
I checked the wire and it is going to the right network
I checked the adapter settings and its on DHCP
I checked the host file and there's no reference to the IP address it is comming up with.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong?

From what to what?

DHCP is dynamic there is no guarantee it will assign the same IP every time.

It should still assign an IP address in the same general subnet, such as 192.168.1.xxx through 192.168.1.yyy etc...

What differences are you getting?

indeed - two seperate dhcp servers will not likely assign the same ip address.

IF your home network and work network have the same topology, just fix an IP address (preferably outside of the dhcp scope) and then your "problem" will go away.

Are you shutting down or suspending/resuming in between sites? I can see the problem if you suspend/resume but not if you shutdown.

When TWO separate DHCP servers are running on the network spells trouble, but that can be one of the reasons why you are getting a TOTALLY different IP...
