When I log onto the internet I cannot browse or contact any site. I ran winipcfg.exe and it reported my IP address as 0.0.0.0 which is obviously not right.

I have tried Microsoft KB to no avail. I would be very grateful for any help

TIA

How do you connect to the internet? If you are using some sort of PPP over phone or ethernet for DSL you have to make sure tcp/ip is set to assign an IP address automatically and also make sure DCHP is turned on

thanks for the tip but I have treid all the obvious problem areas. Further information, I'm using PPP to connect to an ISP. I tried their tech support and they just suggest a format and reload of Windows. I think one of the kids may have got something through ICQ because the connection was working perfectly one day and stopped while they were connected.

Hope this helps to fix the problem. I have no problems with technical fixes if someone can supply one.

Have you looked at the settings on the dail-up. start>>my computer>>Control Panel>>dial up network>>right click on the dialer you are using, select properties, select networking tab,
then click on the tcp/ip button. If your IPS gave you IP numbers they will be entered in the second part primary DNS and secondary DNS. If your IPS did not give you an IP numbers the first circle will be filled
The first circle should be filled in part one.
The last two boxes should be checked.
