I just need to bounce this out there, so here goes(I think I know the answer):
I have a user that is working from home and has the IP2050 Headset Phone. She is experiencing what sounds like "choppy phone calls" and is running a wireless connection for internet. Also, when she is logged into her laptop and connected to the internet, her speed is somewhat deplorable. Should she have her computer connected with a network cable?

Choppy phone calls" is a symptom of either packet loss or jitter. WiFi uses shared bandwidth (similar to a hub) so if there are other Wifi devices/activities using the bandwidth, then there could be issues. There could also be interference with other wireless devices using the same bandwidth or even interference with WiFi networks in adjacent homes using the same frequencies. Although a low probability, if her WiFi network is not secured properly then it is also possible that somebody else has latched on and is using her network for free. The "her speed is somewhat deplorable" comment (assuming you mean when on the WiFi network) indicates there is something going on with the WiFi network.

I have personally used the 2050 on a laptop with a wireless (802.11g) connection on a cable modem (5M down, 0.5M up)backhaul without any issues so it is technically doable.

Agree with gweb (again per usual). It is certainly doable but you also have to remember you don't have ANY QoS (guaranteed) from her cable modem to her carrier into your VPN to your DMZ - but you do have QoS setup from your network 'inside' to your PBX - or at least you should via packet tagging. If she does plug into her wired connection she may notice less choppiness :)
Funny how a lot of people think it should just 'work' without issue since they don't understand all that is required to make it work 'properly'.
