Hello,

I am having some problems with my IP 2004 phones at my remote offices. I set the ringer volume (either by Feature *80 or when a call is ringing by turning it up at that time). The phone rungs at this new volume until the VPN connection goes down or the phone loses power. I have already set my BCM to use set volume. Is this a firmware problem that an update will fix or is this just how it functions? If it is firmware related I guess I'll have to track down the update. My firmware version is 0604D4B right now.

The second issue I am having is when a call is placed or received (to/from IP phone to IP phone or to/from IP phone to any internal digital or external analog phone) there is a 1-1.5 second delay from the time the phone is answered to the time where voice can be heard by the other party. Is this because of protocol negotaitions, etc. or is this delay longer than normal?

Thanks in advance.

The first issue is "normal". Any time a phone loses connection to the system, it reverts back to system default. This happens with digital sets as well - the volume settings are stored in the set, not the system.

The second could be a symptom of latency/jitter in the VPN connection, or a firmware issue. What release of phone are you running, phase 0/1/2? Or, might be easier to ask the part number of the phone (such as NTDUXXX)

I'm surprised the i2004 does not remember the previous volume setting but maybe this will be corrected in future firmware releases.

The strange thing about the second issue is after that first 1 or so second the voice is crystal clear both ways. The part number is TNDU92BB70 and the phone has a date of 2006/03/18 on the back.

As for my network connection I am going across the internet using Contivity 221 routers for the remote sites. My main location is using a COntivity 1010 router.

Thanks for your help thus far.

Sorry, typo in the part number: NTDU92BB70.

NTDU92 is a phase 2 set. That's good.

Which firmware are you running? Which codec are you using? If going over VPN, I'd suggest 729 as opposed to 711 (which is the default).

My firmware version is 0604D4B and I have the codec set to auto, though I have manually tried both those you mentioned with the same results. I am indeed going over a VPN. Any other suggestions? Maybe I just need to track down the latest firmware and give that a try..
