I have a BCM r3 with (2) 2004 ip phones. They connected and registered just fine, but now they lose connection every few minutes and search for the server for a while and reconnect. They do this all day. They are on a very small network with a Linksys router with DHCP enabled ranging 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.149. The BCM (192.168.0.103) has DHCP enabled-IP phones giving the two phones 192.168.0.254 and 192.168.0.253.

If the router is handing out IPs, there's no reason to turn DHCP on, on the BCM. This is causing a conflict.

Since you have your Linksys set as your DHCP server, make sure your IP phones are set to partial DHCP and assign your S1 and S2 server the IP address of the BCM.

I see from your post that your BCM is set to 192.168.1.103 and your dhcp range is 100 to 149. This puts your BCM address within the dhcp range. If that address is statically assigned to the BCM, then it is very likely your Linksys is handing out 103 to some other device which is causing the conflict Dasheen is referring to. Assuming your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, assign the BCM 192.168.1.150 and change the S1 and S2 addresses and you should be ok.

Gotta get the BCM out of the dhcp range of the Linksys.

The BCM DHCP client is enabled. It received 192.168.0.103 from the router along with the proper gateway, DNS etc.

According to the manual

If an external DHCP server is present in your network, the preferred configuration for the Main
Module DHCP server is Enabled - IP phones only. In this case, the DHCP server provides
configuration data to Nortel’s IP phones only. All other devices, like PCs, receive the
configuration data from the external DHCP server.

The BCM DHCP range is 192.168.0.200 to 192.168.0.254. Should I turn off Enabled-IP phones only. I went ahead and unchecked "obtain IP address dynamically" and gave it 192.168.0.150.

You can leave the IP phone only enabled. It won't hurt anything, but you should set the BCM's address statically so there is no danger of it changing on you. So the 150 address is ok because it's on the same network as everything else. I said in my last response to set it to 192.168.1.150 but I see you set it correctly to 0.150.

when you program the sets, setting it to partial dhcp allows it to dhcp to the network it's plugged into while at the same time set the S1 and S2 addresses separately.

It's a bit confusing when your network is using the same addressing scheme as the BCM. Think what would happen if your network was using 10.10.x.x addresses and the BCM's dhcp range was left at 192.168.x.x. Nothing would work very well if you left the sets at full dhcp unless there were routes configured in the routers to route the traffic between the two networks because the BCM would get a 10 address while the sets would get a 192.

Just leave the BCM set to 192.168.0.150 and set the sets to partial dhcp with both the S1 and S2 server addresses at 192.168.0.150 and everything should work fine.

Good Luck with it.
