Is there a recommended IOS Feature Set for use in a CCNA lab? Is it necessary to get an "Enterprise" feature set or will an IP Plus be adequate? (working with 3640 and 3660 routers with max memory)

TIA,

[the other] Bill

IP Plus should be more than enough for most of the CCNA. Can't remember exactly what you get by going to Enterprise off hand. I know IPX support comes in at one of those levels.

For the NP, you will want to have an IOS that can support BGP.

Actually, now that I think about it, IP Base might be enough to get through the CCNA track.

Thanks, Todd.

I wasn't sure if there was any for additional crypto support.

(Isn't it about time Cisco starts moving their client base away from 3DES? IIRC, the NSA suggested 3DES needed to be retired around 2010.)

Nope---IP Base won't do 801.q, i don't think. I know it won't do ip add dhcp on the interface...

Bill...that old security stuff will always come back to haunt you, won't it?lol

I tried calling you yesterday, as I went to fix a MicroVAX 3100 in Belleville...

Thanks for the heads-up. Looks like a "Hunt" for a different feature set.

Sorry we didn't get together. I was out for a while at the local community college checking out the CCNA training program. Then I left my phone in the car and missed more calls than just yours. :(

Did that old 3100 happen to be in the old downtown section of Belleville? That's kind of a long haul from Earthland, isn't it?

Good call Burt, I don't use IP Base at work, so can't remember what it can't do.

Right by the square (which happens to be a circle...lol).

Probably in a law office. There were a few ancient DEC machines around. I used to work in the courthouse on the "round town square" in Belleville more than 25 years ago.

Really!! Must be for some old app they just can't quit using.

Hey Bill,
Can not recall the EXACT feature(s) necessary (at the moment) but I needed IP Plus! 100% for sure for CCNA! That is my final answer! LoL
