I have a computer with a zip 250 internal ATAPI drive running win xp pro. I am using the latest version of Iomegaware, but when I insert a write/read protected disk I cannot unprotect the disk! You are supposed to be able to put the disk in, go to "my computer" and right click on the drive, then select "unprotect" from the context menu. This option (or variations on it) are not available! Does anyone have any info on this? Is this a common problem? Thanks in advance!

Found the same problem myself with a new 250Mb Zip drive in a new Dell XP machine. Went immediately to Iomega ( and downloaded the latest version of Ioware. Problem was that the XP drivers for this product (and many others) is very limited, and has no bells and whistles. You want your old bells and whistles back, you have to get the full version from the hardware vendor.

Adding Ioware restored my ability to access passworded Zip disks.
