I am running windows 2000. I have my Zip Drive plugged into my printer port and my printer (BJC600) plugged into my Zip Drive. When I go to add printer to my printer folder, the lpt1 port is not available. How do I connect or access my local printer through my zip drive? I am not a computer expert so can anyone walk me through it?

Haven't used an external Zip drive for yonks... Do you need to have the Zip drive powered up before running the printer? If you plug the printer straight into the parallel port, thereby eliminating the Zip drive, can you then install and run your printer ok? If yes, then it suggests that the Zip drive and/or cable is faulty. If no, then perhaps the parallel port (LPT1) has been disabled in the BIOS. Close down W2K, restart computer, go into CMOS (Setup) settings (might be hit the <Del> key at POST) before W2K starts. Check the peripherals sub-menu to see if LPT1 or Parallel port is disabled - enable if appropriate.

Check back with us here with further info...

If that all does not work just add a 2nd PCI parallel port. That will speedup your Zip drive anyway.
