good morning !

I've just upgraded the operating system on my Proliant server from NT4 to 2000 server.

I was running Arcserv ver 6.61 with a DAT tape drive to back up my server farm.

Over time, I've had a lot of trouble with the DAT drive and tapes so decided to pursue a removable disk technology, I just got the Iomega Rev drive and some 35GB disks and installed the drive on the 2000 server.

The backup software that comes with the Rev drive is ok excepting that it cannot see the network mapped drives so I'm constrained to backing up only the 2000 server.

I talked to CA and they say that the Arcserve Backup v11 for Windows will be able to handle backup to the Rev drive without a hitch (that the softwaare will just see a removable drive and backup to it very nicely).

Before I take the plunge and fork over the dollars to buy Arcserve Backup v11 for Windows I'd like to see if anyone has had any experience backing up to removable hard drives with Acserve and more specifically, to the Iomega Rev drive.

Thanks so much for any feedback

Why don't you download the trial version of Arcserve 11 and see how you get on with it?

Have not tried it but there are two ways for the backup to work.

1) as a backup device, such as any device on the certified device list
2) as a FSD File System Device created on a volume.

I have the iomege rev drive with arcserve 11.1 backing up about 50 GB with software compression. (about 10 hours) long delay due to external usb drive. It does the job but Arcserve is still a little glitchy using the rev drive. I am sure there will updates soon to fix many of these problems.

I have recently installed the SCSI version of the REV drive. The backup seems to start then on updating the database it seems to stop.
Not sure if the database is corrupt. If it is ..whats next. But to answer your question if you upgrade to 11.1 is will automatically detect both the USB and SCSI version
