My Zip Drive (Iomega 250 USB) won’t read the disk after I installed a Digital Media Reader. Both devices are on USB Ports. My Computer shows the drive letter and the Iomega icon. If I plug the Zip Drive to a different computer, it will read the disk okay. I plugged the Digital Media Reader to both USB Ports and it works, except for the Zip Drive.

I already reformatted the HD thinking it was an IRQ conflict, (although it didn’t show on the Device Manager that there was a conflict of device) but still Zip Drive won’t read. I also updated my BIOS (as per IBM Tech Support) and updated my Iomega Driver (as per Iomega Tech Support) to no avail.

If anyone has an idea why this is happening, I would really appreciate it.

I'm having the same problem with my self powered usb 250 and an IBM 560Z thinkpad - The drive is detected and assigned a drive letter but as soon as I insert a disk it spins and stops repeatedly.

I was about to upgrade my bios as well...

Could it be that the drive isn't receiving enough power from the USB root hub?

any ideas????

Upgrading the BIOS won't do any help. Talking to Tech support from IBM and IOmega was useless. What I did with my was I bought a USB Card and install it on the PCI slot and it works fine, both my media reader and zip drives can read data now.

If you want to do this, be sure to disable your onboard USB ports before installing your USB Card.
