Hello, hope this is the right place to post this question (if not please direct me to the correct foum, thanks).

I currently have a VB app that invokes a series of Crystal Reports (8.5) automatically using the old Crystal Reports OCX tool. We are considering buying and implementing the latest version of Crystal Reports Server for other reporting needs, and I would like to know:

Is it possible to keep the same automatic invocation of my reports from my app under CR Server? Are there properties and methods made available that can let me call the report from my program, pass it parameters and cause it to display on screen? I realize that I may need to re-write the reports in the latest version of CR, that will not be a problem if we do implement CR Server.

Not looking for specific info on how to do that (yet), just want to know if it is possible. Thanks.

The OCX is no longer supported, and Crystal suggested that you NOT use it for CR 8.5, the RDC replaced it.

As for CRS, you can even call reports from within CRS rather than using a Windows based method.

Hey K

Yeah, I know we aren't supposed to be using it for 8.5 but it still works, and it meant I didn't have to rewrite that part of the application two years ago. We are re-writing it now, which is one of the reasons we're thinking of going over to CRS.

The App I'm talking about is a purchase-order generator, which collects and saves the data then calls a Crystal Report that displays and pirnts the document. Right now we use the OCX to populate a CR object in the VB app, invoking the report and passing in a document # parameter. I'm looking to do something similar in the new app (being written in VB.NET). Is it possible to have similar functionality -- though I know the mechanics will be VERY different?

Thanks

Sure, the RDC will handle that, and most of the sample apps on the BO site are for the RDC.

Okay, thanks. Good to know. I'm sure when I get to that point I'll be back with questions...
