Hi.

I've installed Solaris 8 on an Intel Pentium 166MHz box on a console switch to a 19" monitor. I am able to log in alright in all environments except the CDE.

When logging in to the CDE I get the workspace background only briefly. Afterwards, two default windows (Getting Started and disk contents) sit open on a black screen. The windows don't have any title-bars, and therefore cannot be repositioned. There is also no control bar at the bottom, as usual on Solaris.

Does anyone know how I can get the CDE environment to be shown?

Thanks,
Bojan

Check if dtlogin is running (ps -ef | grep dtlogin )
If not /usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e will create the startup script (/etc/rc2.d/S99dtlogin )
to get the login server started when the system boots.

sounds a bit like dtwm isn't running ... no window manager, no borders ...

you did do a full install of everything didn't you?
