You create a button, and set it in all 4 states. You then delete the up, over, and down states.
If you're wondering how I did that invisible button in the .fla I sent you...
I drew an outline of "Mike" with the pencil tool. Filled it in with some color, doesn't really matter. Converted it into a symbol (with a button's behavior). Copied it in the hit state and deleted the other states.
Dragged it from the library to the stage and positioned it over "mike" on it's own layer!
That's it!
