Invisible Background

I have a picture of a counterstrike character and it has a background that i want to make invisible so i can insert the picture onto my website and have the website background visible instead!

is there any way of doing this? or whats the best program if fireworks cant?

you need to use the magic wand tool, and the lasso tool, and select the background, and remove it, or add/ delete selection as a mask.

Sometimes, when my code just won't behave, I take it outside and make it listen to britney spears music, and when it comes back it's really well behaved. I wonder if it's suffering from post tramatic stress syndrome now..
