I am having a hard time figuring out what the hell is wrong here. I have a 227kb swf file. The movie has a preloader that doesn't seem to work in a browser. I've tested it within flash, and although it takes a bit to load, the preloader works, and works well. When I test it in a browser, the thing takes a year and a half to load, and the preload is nowhere to be seen. Not even a glimmer. All my layers are in the right place, I checked that, thinking it was a stupid mistake on my part. I can't figure it out at all. Any help would be *greatly* appreciated!!!

Also, if anyone knows any useful web publishing tutorials or whatnot, I could use the help. :)

Is this way too vague or something? I don't know what other details to post....

Is this your first time at building a preloader? Maybe post your url so we can have a look!

;-)

Alrighty!
I think I might be a huge retard..... Maybe it does work.

This is my first time really doing anything with flash. But yeah, it's my first preloader. I made some christmas cards for the company I work for, but I just published them as .exe files and sent them around like that. I am trying to figure out how to encorporate flash into the web things that I am doing. It's not easy to find info on it. It seems like it's either way too technical for me to understand yet, or I already know it. It can be very frustrating.

Ok, I guess I got the swf file to work, but I am having trouble embedding the darn thing in a html page. I have a tutorial from lovey webmonkey, but I still seem to be doing something off. You don't happen to know anywhere else that might be have a step by step I could check out?

I know I'm pusing it, but I'm desperate. X-)

Well... sorry to report that this seems to be working fine too! Don't know the size of your movie, but on my PentiumII-350 (not that fast nowadays!) it took like 20 secs. to load and your preloader(if it's the green crawl) seems to be workin' fine!

Happy Christmas to you!

;-)

Hope you won't be ahead of me again...
Just had a look at your code, replacing your link(to the .swf) in youd DIV by an embed tag, should solve your problems.
You can always have a look at this document for reference on how to use the embed tag:

Good luck! You'll get there!

;-)

Sorry! It ain't working anymore!
Probably code problem: You should replace
<param name=movie value=&quot;file:///C%7C/Kate%27s%20Documents/Flash%20Stuff/katescardswf.swf&quot;>
and
<embed src=&quot;file:///C%7C/Kate%27s%20Documents/Flash%20Stuff/katescardswf.swf&quot;

by something like:
&quot;
... you're now linking this back to your machine! It probably works for you... but won't for anybody else!
