The Inventory Turnover report in GP does not allow the user to specify a date range, so I have the task of building one.

Formula:
Sales (for the period) / Avg Inventory (for the period)

I can get the Period Sales from the Sales Summary Period History (IV30102); however I can't find any table that stores Avg Inv or Ending Qty on Hand by period for me to calculate Avg Inventory.

Has anyone ever done a report like this and can offer any advice?

sorry, there is no such report to help you here.

IV00102 stores a "beginning inventory quantity" that adjust itself whenever you run a year end on inventory.

The best I was able to come up with was to do a report that would do a running total of the inventory in a sql view and run a report from that data. Problem is, when you get up there in the millions of transactions (we're at 2.8 million transactions right now) this kind of report takes quite a while to run.

coming up with inventory used during a period is pretty easy, but coming up with that beginning inventory value of the period you're analysing is the hard part.

I was afraid of that.

Anyway thanks for the info. I'll give your sql view idea more thought and see what I can come up with.
