Does anyone know how or if a trigger can be set in Macola that will generate a message when an inventory item drops below a certain level? Maybe a 3rd party solution? Thanks.

There are several ways of doing this. You can use Exact Event Manager, MS SQL Server Triggers, MS Data Transformation Services, Custom Programming, etc... Developing the trigger and subsequent message requires some skills once you have decided on the solution to use. Exact Event Manager is probably the most user friendly of the solutions, however it is still technically challenging to configure and write triggers for.

I would suggest working with a solution provider to implement a solution. There are many well qualified individuals that post on this forum that could help you. To contact any of the solution providers, visit one of our websites and look for contact information.

Please define "a message". Do you want this to be an on demand report? If so there are several ways to do this in Macola, which all vary depending upon what modules you are running.

If you want this to be every so many hours/minutes or whatever period of time, you need to purchase Event Manager. An event like this is already pre-loaded into the software. You may want to tweak the logic a bit but it is already there.

Thanks for the help. It looks like Event Manager is what I need to use. It' not the answer I wanted to hear but it seems to be what I need. Now, does anyone know how to sneak this into an already stretched budget, LOL. Thanks again.

As the owner of limited budget myself, I would consider writing a Crystal report to review the reorder points and report accordingly.

Then schedule the Crystal to run however often you need.

If you have Macola for Microsoft SQL Server then you can hack your way through writing a DTS script. This is something you already have as well. AKPolarBears solution is good too but it will generate a report for review regardless if there is a problem.

For an inexpensive alternative to Event Manager, try Visual Cut. While not a true 'event trigger' tool, it can be utilized to schedule and run any Crystal report periodically (hourly, daily, weekly etc.). It can also email the outcome, and can be configured to only email when the report has contents i.e. setup a Crystal report to look for your condition (low inventory, high $ orders etc.) then add to Visual Cut to email person/people when the report finds values.

The discussion titled OE to PO in this forum has also bought up the subject of triggers. There are some good points in there and worth a read before you use this method.
