We just upgraded from ZFD 3.2 to ZFD 4. The upgrade procedure went fine but now we can't get the inventory service to start.

It fails with the message.

java: Class com.novell.zenworks.desktop.inventory.servercommon.ZENWorksInventory ServiceManager exited with status -1

Anyone got any ideas?

Regards

Adam

First ensure you have all the proper services loaded. You need to have the Sybase database, the ZEN web server and the Invetory Java service running.

If you don't need the current data in the invetory, you can try reinstalling just the inventory service.

Open tracefilter.properties file with notepad, change
"default"=brief
to
"default"=debug5

open another file tracemedia.porperties in notepad, change
com.novell.utility.trace.TraceMediumConsole = ON; brief
to
com.novell.utility.trace.TraceMediumConsole = ON; DEBUG5

These two changes will record more information in the log files and you can find what is the real error by go through the log file.
