We need to import a 2000+ "Inventory" items into GreatPlains V7.5 from an Excel spreadsheet. What is the easiest way to do this?

Also, many of the items we will import will not be in our physical inventory and we do not want to include them in our monthly cycle count. Any suggesstions for handling these 'dropship' items?

You will probably use Integration Manager. You will come across some information that you will not be able to import through Integration Manager such as cycle count info.

Also, if you have a group of items that are usually drop-ship and not re-ordered on blanket orders, you can set them up in a seperate item class. Of course, you can always mark them as No Order Point.

We used Integration Mgr to bring in 16,000 items from an Excel sheet.

Drop-ship items will be treated like a regular item with item type as Sales Inventory. The only difference is when you create a Sales Order you need to mark the drop-ship box then choose the Purchase button. In the PO Preview you'll be ask to assign a Vendor ID and Vendor Item then Generate. This will link your Sales Order to your PO.

If you do this your item card will always show zero on-hand.

Hope this helps.
