This is a big one. I am preparing an inventory for 8 seperate locations. The want to track beginning inventory, actual count, shortages, sold and new new inventory. Updates will be made a minimum of weekly. Want to be able to track sales for all locations. This is a cologn and perfume kiask owner who wants to track his product. In over my head but want to help the guy. There are 3,000 various types of cologn and perfume for the table. Question 1: Must I have separate columns of sales, shortages etc., for all 8 locations? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What you are actually asking is for a design of the database. It sounds as though you need to get a beginning intro book to the use of Access. There are no 'columns' in Access....There are tables and fields.

Since you are attempting to track inventory across 8 different locations, you will need at least two tables: (1) Locations, and (2) Product.

There is also a question of how the inventory will be kept up to date. And by whom?

This is a fairly simple project but a big one for a beginner....with a lot of questions and design issues.

Have you checked out the sample Northwind database that comes with Access? It could be a good start for you.

I check it out, but I'm kinda lost when it comes to the forms such as, at the very bottom it has two fields that are know where in the tables. Are they just pretend names or what. Looking at tracking the OnHand numbers.

I'll look at it again and get back to you if your willing to look. Your pretty good with this stuff

thanks

where are the OnHands numbers? i Dont see that on any of the forms. which button are you pushing?

Also, as for your original question...maybe you have seen in the Northwind db there are multiple "locations" all over the world. You have the same table, but perhaps a field for LocationID in the table.

I am at work right now, without either database. I hope you do understand I am asking about 2 separate Access Files.

If you will, let's work the other one and then if you will, help with with this one, it seems a lot harder and the other is almost complete.

thanks
