Invalid Internet Address

I have just setup a site using Domino and Notes R5.

I am using a dial- up account with an SMTP feed to connect to my ISP over ISDN.

When I try and send external mail to an internet address it bounces back with the error message 'invalid internet address'

I have found some documentation that suggests the users internet adddress contains an *, but I have checked and it doesn't.

Any ideas
