Prove this to yourself by going to Customer/Services Administration, Log Administration, Administrator's Log, then hit SAVE. At around 3:00am every day, you should see a log entry that says something about a successful backup.
However, the unattended backup doesn't catch absolutely everything. It backs up enough to get your system up and running again, but it is not complete.
Therefore, you should back up the system data manually whenever you make extensive changes to the user profiles, or if you also want to back up names, greetings, and messages. This would be done BEFORE the nightly backup occurs.
Also, a full backup may take more than one tape. Unattended backup cannot accomodate this (obviously), which is why the backup is abbreviated.
One last thing. Make sure the Unix clock is set correctly...it's what the Unattended Backup procedure uses for it's scheduler. According to AT&T documentation, it is recommended that the clock be checked once a month due to a 3 second per day loss. To check or modify, go to Customer/Services Administration, System Management, UNIX Management, UNIX Date and Time.
