We have 2 2k Server DC's in our domain, also an Exchnge 2000 box. I have introduced a 2003 server into the domain, i know want to promote this to a Domain controller. Problem is im not sure about the fixing of the following issue

It doenst make sense to me, do i need to run the cleanup scripts? or do i just need to make sure i run /foresprep and /adminprep scripts on the Schema master?

Cheers for any help

I did this a few times, its been some time ago though. Run the InetOrgPersonPrevent.ldf script as stated in the doc then run forestprep and domainprep then dcpromo the 2k3 server. like i said i did it a few times and never had an issue. make sure you are a member of the schema admin group.

Cheers did it by hand last night, couldnt get the script to work. Ran forestprep too, going to run domainprep tonight.

Tricky100,

Make sure you are using the correct verisons of the scripts and prep tools. Many 2003 media sets came with 2 discs. Use the versions on disk 2.

Are you serious??? i used the versions on disc 1. What should i do know? Run them again from Version 2?

I think you are fine, if the 2k3 server is pre R2 you have nothing to worry about, if it was an R2 release i dont think it would have worked, dcpromo would have errered out.

Yeah it is R2, havent dcpromo(ed) yet, i have run forest prep again from Disc 2. worked fine, will run domain prep later on then dcpromo tommorrow morning..

Any issues with running both?

Cheers

:) lol thanks! nothing like doing it straight in production.

Anyone know? i will let you know the outcome

As long as you reran all the tools in order on disc 2 you should be fine. Just did this a few weeks ago and all went OK.

Just a tip on MS migrations of any flavor. If any tool fails STOP what you are doing and scour the web for similar situations or post (like you did) on here.

btw - dcpromo can take a bit to run depending on your AD size.

Good luck,

BEFORE YOU DO THAT.....
