I have an Intranet where we are linking to a number of Word document templates. So far we have been unable to open, in a new Word window, creating a "documentx" based on the template, the way you do when you double-click a .dot file in Windows Explorer. The link causes a open/save box to come up and clicking Open causes the dot to load into Word running as a plug-in to IE.

Is there a way to force a Word doc to open in a new Word window through a web page? I thought I read something once about controlling behavior through defining MIME types in the page header, but this is an area I know little about.

Thanks. VBCOOP's final solution dated 12/23/04 regarding the MSKB article about hyperlinking to a link did the trick.
