Hi
Im in a network(192.168.100.*) of Windows machines and I have a Linux RH 7 box(192.168.100.128) wimme. I need to setup DNS on the Linux box.I have managed to configure Apache on this from scratch and I need to map the URL say to the Apache Server on the Linux box. How Do i configuire my Linux box for such a setup where it also has DNS running on it? Ive already tried the HOWTO but Ive gotten nowhere!

Any help appreciated.

what do you mean "map" ??? do you mean you want to redirect a site to that intralinux.com?? and for DNS do this ..get BIND and then configure thats all that is needed if you need some documentation about setting up BIND mail me and i will send you a tar.gz file of the DNS & BIND book :)

one thing is the apache server different box from the linux box ??

Hi,

Not sure exactly what you mean - is it a DNS server for intranet use only ? If so, its very easy really. As said above, you just install the 'bind' rpm and then create a zone file for your intranet domain. Have a look at the redhat doc --> .

What you might find is that it's set up expecting use of rndc which is a bit more complicated. You have to create a crytographic key and edit your config files a bit. (rndc is used for security purposes to make remotely controlling the dns server reasonably secure.) See --> .

You also have to allow port 53 tcp/udp (dns) and tcp port 953 (rndc control channel) through your firewall.

Hope this helps
