Hi
I have good experience with Networker. But just wanted you guys opinion too. Question ..
When you think you need new networker server in your enviornment ?
When you think you need new storage node ?

Thank you

Thats difficult to answer:

1. question : If the ammount of your networker cfi Databases are exceeding 500GB I would think about a new Networker datazone.

2. question : Depends completely on your infrastructure.
If you need more devices (16 with network edition) in your networker datazone you have to purchase additional storage node licenses.
If you have I/O congestions you can implement storagenodes to balance the load.
With now affordable 10GB Ethernet infrastrucrure and new Backup-hardware, you can get a hell of backup performance out of a single intel box.
In some cases you should implement storagenodes to shape your maintenance window.
If the existing storagenodes are allways backing up or staging data, you cant patch them.

Hi

Can you elaborate on "implement storagenodes to shape your maintenance window" ?
What you mean "patch them" ?

Thank you

This will lead to an endless discussion as you must consider the whole environment.

There are some key issues:
- If you must run more than 512 concurrent streams.
- If you exceed the total number of devices (256 as far as i remember).
- At least to keep a data zone manageable.
- To save money.
I think the price for a server and a SN are the same.
But the server license also includes 10 client licenses ;-).

But i do not see any reason why the total size of all CFI should not exceed 500GB - you usually only browse through 1 active backup cycle for 1 client.
