I have a graphic/text problem. I want to position two words, which begin with "S" and "R" , so the bottom loop of the "S" hooks through the top loop of the "R". It sounds easy, but I bet it isn't.
What i have is the "S" going under the "R", but I need the last little bit of the bottom loop of the "S" to go above the left hand "spine" of the "R".

What I figured I could do was make a copy of the "S" then convert it to a graphic, then mask it so just the part that comes out of the "R" is visible, then put it on top of the part of the "S" that currently goes under the R.

But I can't figure out how to convert the text to graphics, and maybe there's a different way.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for the suggestion. While at times brevity is the soul of wit, only if it can be understood. I don't understand it. How do I do that, and how would it help?

...convert to outline is found under the type menu, this will then allow you to modify your letters as a shape, using the direct select tool and removing points if needed...

Thank you, that's what I want to do. But I'm still uncertain how. I have transformed the "S" to an outline. How do I create points around the part I want to cut off so I can move it. I have used other software where you can create new points, but here I seem to be able only to manipulate the points that are already on the "S", which messes with the whole shape of the letter.

Is it possible just to erase the part that is over top of the "R", thereby making the top bit of the "R" look like it goes over the S? I tried to use the erase tool, but that didn't work.

...use the direct selection tool (white arrow), click on the edge of the S so the points are visible, shift select the points around the tail of the S, you won't need all the points that make up the S...

...copy then paste in place, only the tail of the S needs to be in front of the R, then get the pen tool and remove points that overlap the R, the main S needs to be behind the R, remove as many points needed until you reveal the R in full...

Andrew

...you will need the pen tool with the minus symbol, this is from the pen tool flyout tool box (click and hold the pen tool to reveal it)...

Andrew

I've got it! Thanks. I think that's it. It's pretty tricky, but I'm getting the hang of it.

Thanks again for your help.

Sorry 'danmalleck', you are quite right.

I was rushed and answered as best I could with the time I had and hoping that I had at least put you on track. I did intend comming back to it (I am here now)!

However 'apepp' got there first and saved the day. "All's well..." :)
