Example: In a block of text, the sentences to be numbered are occassionally interrupted with the words FIGURE [where a picture would be placed]. I wish to select all the text at once, click [whatever or style] to get the lines to be numbered, then click the line FIGURE and give it a different style. When doing so, the numbering of the rest of the sentences starts over at 1. I wish the numbering to continue (ignoring the interruption)

Yes except the #5 should read #4 and this is an automatic numbering, not a manual numbering. At this time, I have to click where the break in the numbering occurs, then set the numbering to begin at the proper number.

hi,

Put a forced line break after the text line 3 and then a normal return after the figure. This way the figure is seen as a part of the textline 3.

Yes but not if Figure 4 is to be set as a STYLE. Forced Line Breaks (Shift-Return?? Like word??) carries the previous style into the next line. Thanks and I will check this.

No, you can't because you break the List chain so it doesn't know that it's part of another list hence the reset to number 1.

You can't even keep it part of the number list but make the number colour none.

you could insert it as a inline graphic, but if you do that then you might as well do what your doing at the moment.

If the figure has to have a style attribute a character style to it. You could even make a nested style that would do the trick in your paragraph style.
