I have a Citrix Server Farm MetaFrame 1.8 running over windows terminal server sp6 there is one published application between them, the desktop, all is well with the world. However a new server has been added to the domain although not to the farm, this new server is Windows 2000 sp2 running MetaFrame XPE no applications are published users just access the server directly. When the server is placed in mixed mode users can logon to the XPE box no problem; however uses of the farm cannot always logon they get a cannot find a Citrix server message, but if they try a few times they connect eventually. If the XPE box is put in native mode (this is what I require) uses can logon to the farm fine but I users of the XPE box get a not enough licenses error. Now the licensing on the XPE box is currently an eval license I don’t believe this should make any difference.

Do you have both a base and a connections license on the XPe server? I'd guess that when you have it in mixed mode, connections licenses are handled by the 1.8 server, so when you put it into native mode, there are no connections licenses left.

Does this seem about right? CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk

This is obviously a really stupid question however here goes. What is difference between a base and connections license? In the past I have just applied licences and license packs as required, I have sent screen shots of License manager of each server to your Yahoo address hope this is okay but it saves huge amounts of typing. However you theory does seem to make perfect sense.

I replied to your e-mail, but without referring to this post. Please excuse my duplication of your information!

I see that the 1.8 server is also an eval. Maybe this makes a difference? I wouldn't have thought so, but haven't tested it.

You need also an eval Connection license. This should have come with your eval Server CD. You should see two license numbers; Server and ICA Connect. The ICA Connect number will also begin Exxxx-xxxxx-xx...

The difference between the two types of license is that the connections license actually allows connections to the Citrix server, while both are needed for the server top operate.

In the License Numbers tab in the Licenses node of the CMC you will see something like (My reference server is running FR1, in case there are any discrepancies);

Description License Number
MetaFrame XPe 1.0 for Windows CTX**-xxxxx-xxxxx-xx...
MetaFrame XPe 1.0 Connection Pack CTX**-xxxxx-xxxxx-xx...
MetaFrame XP 1.0...FR1 CTX**-xxxxx-xxxxx-xx...
MetaFrame XP 1.0, FR1 Connection.. CTX**-xxxxx-xxxxx-xx...

In the Summary Tab you should see;
Platform Level Server Count Connection Count
MetaFrame XPe for Windows 10 1,000

Feature Release Server Count Connection Count
MetaFrame XP FR1 10 1,000

and in the Connection tab you will see;

Description Count Pooled In Use Pooled Available
MetaFrame Connection 1,000 0 1,000

I hope this helps CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk

I have run a quick test and this does seem to solve the issue, I find out for sure at about 17:30 - 18:00. No else seemed to know enough about XP to have even heard of a connections license.
Once again, is it a bird is it a plane no it's Citrix Engineer to the rescue

But Seriously Thanks
