I have a novice question.

I have a client that is trying to make the disicion weather to go internet or intranet. The only pages they want to created (at this point in time) are their database forms.

My questions are:
Other than increased security (if they use intranet) is there any other major development differences?
Will the option they take effect how the form pages are developed?
They are thinking of using Access tables on the server, ODBC and VBScript for the Form pages.

Thank you for your answers in advance.

The only technical distinction between an Internet and an Intranet site is the restriction of who can see the site.

In terms of content there is usually a marked difference. A company would put things on an intranet that they would never put on a publicly accessible site.

I would not worry about Internet v. Intranet .. . . I would be worried about wanting to use an Access DB . . . [bomb]

Intranet: From a site design point of view you wouldn't need to worry about cross-browser design issues and many other internet development issues such as optimising images to help download times etc etc
You also don't need to create any kind of catchy design as you're not trying to attract visitors or sell anyting.
Just makes the job a bit easier on an intranet.

I disagree with Cian about needing to worry about cross-browser design issues and the catchy design. I think it depends on the size of your company. If you know that 100% of your employees work on just a PC then you can leave the mac issues out. But if you are not, you need to resolve your mac issues, or you are going to alienate those employees. You cant expect to tell employees to get information via your intranet if some of them can't view it. As for a catchy design. I think that it probably should be more functional than trying to win a design award. But you can still have it look great and be functional at the same time. Or employees aren't going to want to use it. You need to have the information organized in a way that employees can find it quickly. They go to the intranet to get information. If they can't find it, people will get frustrated. Such as if an employee has been directed to get a particular benefits form via the intranet to fill out, if they can't find it, then you are wasting a lot of company time and in the end money. That employee is spending his time (your money) looking for something. Then has to spend more time contacting HR, so now you are involving another employee (more money)in a task that if it was properlly organized in the first place wouldn't cause this wasted time and money.

Just my 2cents.

Thanks Everyone for your input (and 2 cents) you have given my client and I food for thought.

Thanks FVTrainer:

I don't think the client will be using the scheduling feature.

Does it Pass logon and parameter values in the same way VBScript does?

Is your learning curve analogy from the perspective of someone who knows Crystal Reporing or someone who is learning it?

Thank you for taking up so much of your time.
