I downloaded a free evaluation packet sniffer from CommView because I thought my computer was sending and receiving a bit more info than I wanted it to (I was watching the 2 little monitors in the corner of my screen and they kept on blinking after I had gotten to the site I was looking for - this happened quite a bit so I thought I would check it out). Anyways, when I am running the CommView program, any time that I go to a website, the site name and location are being sent to a specific address. I don't know who this site is other than a brief name and location based on what CommView and SmartWhois tell me. Is this normal and I am just being paranoid? or is there a little program in my computer telling it to send this info? Basically, it looks like I am being tracked by where I am going on the internet. I have a 56k connection and this is on my personal computer. I am running Windows 98 and Internet Explorer. I am no computer genius so any help at all would be appreciated. Thank you.

go start->run type in "netstat -a 2" netstat is an old dos program that shows all tcp/ip connections. You can refine you packet sniffing in this method. try this, go to a website like but first open up the command prompt, start->run type in "command" then type in ping grab the ip address and when you are running netstat at the same time see if the ip address match. If they do not then you have an intruder on your system. Make sure to record all ip address you see. Then one by one do ctrl + alt + del and close programs, not explorer.exe or kernel32.dll.... good luck and here are some more articles if you want to read them.
