Is there any way I can set up ACT 10 2008 to run internet sync on Vista Home basic?

I have a main database running on a desktop with Vista Home Basic, and a remote database running on XP Pro...

I'm having terrible difficulty getting Internet Sync Services to install on either machine.

I have IIS enabled on the Vista machine and installed on the XP remote machine, but when I try to install the Internet Sync Services from the ACT! installation CD, I get told it is incompatible with Vista, and that XP requires features not currently installed??!?!?

It's driven me half crazy...(the other half, which was still sane)

Failing this, is there any way to take a sync on a USB pen-drive? Or any way to sync at all between these two machines (Vista Home and XP Pro)...they are in separate locations.

Many thanks for any help.

btw I have ACT 10 Premium vers 10.0.1.199 on both machines...

Easiest way...

Use Application or Network sync and set it up via a VPN. You can use Hamachi for a really easy to set up VPN.

You should also update to 10.0.2

Thanks...I think I have the network sync set up now, but am I right that with Network sync active you cannot set Act to receive incoming syncs?? Do I need to?

It gives me an error when I try.

I'll d/l Hamachi and see what I can get sorted...

Hope it all goes smoothly as I have to drive 2 hours to the remote computer to check if it all works :-(

Thanks again

Telling ACT! to receive incomming sync is Application sync. That requires ACT! to be open and logged into the database at the time. The Network or Internet sync services can run without the computer being logged in.

Why not just do the remote via remote access?

OK, so I'm at the other location ;-)

So far, no good.

I have Hamachi installed on both machines...should I be entering the Hamachi IP of the Publisher database machine in the sync panel on the subscriber machine?

It doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong??

Thanks in advance

Thanks for all your help here...

I'm very dumb, however...do you mean the external IP address of the Sync Service machine, ie the Parent (Publisher) database? This is where the sync service is installed...

Cheers

AAARGGH!

It's doing my head in.

I keep getting the same message, Act! is unable to connect to the sync server...check to be sure accept incoming sync is enabled in the main database and the network sync service is running. Also be sure you are connected to your network...

Incoming sync is enabled, network sync is running, and I am connected to the Hamachi network and the internet...

I have tried the Hamachi IP's, the external IP of the oublisher machine, have configured port forwarding on the publisher database machine, and as far as I know all the firewall settings are OK, but still no joy.

What am i doing wrong?
