Hi guys

I am an applemac virgin, I have agreed to help a freind get online on his mac which is running OS 8.6, he has a pace(microlin 33.6) external (33600bps) (fax & data modem, Do I need to download drivers for this?? Will it be auto detected?? I really have no idea how to go about this. After the install of the modem do I need to get a mac ISP cd?? If you could let me know that would be very very very helpfull.

Thanks
Rob

You possibly need drivers, if you can't locate it in your modem control panel. (Apple menu-->control panels-->modem. I have found that using other drivers by trial and error sometimes works too, if you can't find drivers.

You will use the PPP control panel, possibly also called "remote access" I can't remember at what OS version they changed the name. That is similar to dial-up networking control in windows. There you enter your username, password, ISP phone number, and connect/disconnect from the internet, dialing and hanging up your modem.

TCP/IP control panel is where you specify that the tcp/ip protocol needs to use ppp. Enter you DNS Server IP addresses and you should be good to go.

Best of luck,
PT
