I have just registered with BT surftogether but now need a good ISP that is cheap and works with BT, Has anyone got any good suggestions?

Many Thanks

Grap a phone book and start there under internet. Ask each of them is they support BT (I am not sure what it is). Most ISPs support a wide range of software. Just give them a call.

I actually feel a little conned. I have just moved to the UK and signed up for a phone after being told that you get unlimited access in the evenings and weekends for just 15 quid. It is only now the small print enlarges that I see that you need to dail into a 0844 04 number with your ISP, which means paying more to them monthly too!!!!

Surely there is a way of getting connected dead cheap, can anyone help? Either by letting me know a better way than BT or a good ISP to work with BT surf together.

How do you connect? ( I live in Bordon, Hants)

Many Thanks

As the charge includes the monthly line rental (which you have to pay in the UK anyway), it's not quite as bad as it looks, however I am no friend of BT and how they are acting. I personally have a cable modem connection via Telewest, and although broadband is still limited availability here, it is the way to go. To find out whether you can get it, try the links on my site for the top three suppliers. Unfortunately where you live may mean that BT openworld is your best bet, I think the closest NTL get to you is Guildford.

If you want or have to stick with analogue, you will need an ISP that offers a FRIACO (Flat Rate Internet Access Call Origination) option. You should be able to get a subscription for around £15-20, depending on the deal. I can't vouch for the service, but Freeserve Anytime is one possible route I suspect that it will probably make sense to cancel the surftogether package, but you'll have to do your own math on that as you will always have to allow for the line and voice call charges.

One last option would be to register an ISP as you favourite number under 'Friends and family' and get a further percentage of a local 0845 access number.

I hope this is clear(ish) please do come back if you need more help.
